About Counselling and Therapy

Counselling can help clients live and work in more satisfying and resourceful ways and with greater wellbeing and confidence.

I provide both short term counselling and longer term therapy for those wishing to explore more in depth issues. Sometimes longer term work can involve exploring more fully your past family and childhood experiences which, if they have been traumatic, can cause difficulties in adult life.

Short term work is usually focused upon specific issues and often lasts about 8-12 sessions. I work with people presenting with issues such as anxiety, depression, personal and work related stress, health issues and bereavement.

I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental context in which people can:

  • Work with feelings and emotions in positive, accepting ways;
  • Gain self awareness, understanding and perspective on troubling issues;
  • Receive the support they need to think more clearly and make decisions;
  • Explore personal resources and find new energy for life.

    My practice is based on Emotion Focused Therapy, which is an integrative approach drawing on experiential and gestalt theories and a client centred framework . It is a flexible and dynamic research informed therapy, which has been used to work with a variety of client issues including depression, anxiety and trauma. I am also influenced by mindfulness based approaches to reducing stress. The core of my practice is always that I will work with you from a holistic perspective, that is to see you as a whole person, working with your emotions and feelings,thoughts and mental patterns, mind, body and spirit. It also means that our therapeutic relationship is fundamental in facilitating you to move towards your own personal growth, empowerment and solutions.
